1) What camera do you use?

I began analogue photography with a Canon AE-1, but my boyfriendoffered me recently, two cameras : a Pentax Spotmatic and a Pentax MESuper, which I am trying to tame ! I also use regularly a Polaroid Supercolor600 and a Polaroid Automatic 100.

2) What is your favourite filmstock?

I don’t know... presently there's a Fujicolor pro 400H in my Spotmatic.

3) For the photo(s) submitted, why are they your favourite?

I don’t have favourites, but I like these photos becausethey show what analogue photography is for me, an escape... imperfect images ofsweet memories. And it was impossible to not share a photo with Emmanuel, my firstsupport in all that I began.

1)What camera do you use?

Iuse 3 cameras : a Holga, which I use a lot for the multiple exposures mode, andbecause it's so easy to use ! A Pentacon Six : it was my first SLR and it isprobably my favourite camera though it's really big and heavy so I don't use itas often as I would like. And finally a 35mm, a Pentax Spotmatic that I bringwith me everywhere.

2)What is your favourite filmstock?

Forthe 120 format, I used to shoot only with Kodak Portra 400 NC, but they stoppedproducing it so I go with the new Kodak Portra 400.

Forblack and white I love the Agfa Scala film, though it's not produced anymoreeither. It's a slide b&w film but I develop it as a negative film. It'sreally wonderful and I have a little precious stock that I keep.

Otherwisefor 35mm, colour and b&w, I use whatever I can find at flea markets, so it'susually expired films.

3) Forthe photo(s) submitted, why are they your favourite?

Idon't really have a favourite, but I like these pictures because it reallyshows what photography is for me : a daily moment, something usual, but madebeautiful by the light.

1) What camera do you use?

The only one that I own is a Yashica T4 Super Weatherproof, which is really on its last leg at this moment. If I didn't have to answer this question, I wouldn't realise that it's in fact my favourite camera. It has been used under pouring rain, during snow storms, thrown on the floor... you get the idea. Occasionally, I will buy disposable cameras when I forget my camera on trips where I feel like documenting a great moment but these days I tend to rely on a digital Panasonic Lumix out of pure laziness.

2) What is your favourite filmstock?

I don't have a favorite filmstock, I think. I'll just buy whatever I can find (ISO 400 if possible) from the generic drugstore brands such as Kodak, Fujifilm, etc.

3) For the photo(s) submitted, why is it your favourite?

I like the blank stare on my friend's face. I snapped this photo without her knowing and I'm one of those who like when people are completely unaware that a camera is pointing at them. It's when people act the most like themselves. I remember this moment like it was yesterday. We just got back from a walk through Old Montreal in the middle of a snow/hailstorm looking for a good cup of hot chocolate. After walking around for 30 minutes, to no avail, eyelashes frozen and all, we just wanted to find a place to get our normal body temperatures back so we hopped in a subway wagon, heading downtown. Once we got in, we were complaining about how it was too hot inside.

1) What camera do you use?

I use a home-made pinhole camera. I named it Pintax 6x6...as thename suggests, it shoots on 120 roll film, in 6x6cm square format. It has a focaldistance of 35 millimeters and the pinhole diametre of approximately 0.2 mm.I've made it from cardboard with some black spray paint. Also, the light issealed with some black duct tape.

2) What is your favourite film stock?

I used to shoot Fuji Neopan 400, but it's 30% more expensivethan the film I now use and really love - Efke iso100. Both films areblack&white. Besides that, Efke is old and small factory from my country -Croatia :)

3) For the photo(s) submitted, why are they your favourite ?

I really love winter, its serenity, the Christmas holidayfeeling...and whiteness. These photos didn't lost anything because they are inb&w - they would look very similar in colour. But I strongly preferB&W.

Iwanted to choose some of my mid format photos, because it's my favourite format(f.e. taken with Flexaret, camera which was made in the Czechoslovakia, nowCzech Republic, where I come from), but THIS photo mean much more for me...it's pretty old, but I think it's one of my best and I love it. It’s myboyfriend, whom I still love so much even after 5 years that we’ve together :)It was taken at the start of our relationship and HE was the man, whointroduced me to film, thank you!

Ienjoy Kodak Portra 400 35mm and Fuji FP-100C instant colour film a lot. Theyboth play with light and shadows beautifully.

3. For the photo submitted, why is it your favourite?

Thisphoto was taken at Yaquina Head in Oregon at the Pacific Ocean. I hadrecently been given the Polaroid Land Camera 340 and it was on this trip when Ifell in love with using it. The anticipation of waiting and then peelingapart the film to reveal a view captured is one of the best things ever. Thisis one of my favourites because of the memory and moment.

I like to work with a variety of film cameras. I alwayscarry with me a Konica Hexar and Rollei 35SE. For portraits I like to work witha Hasselblad 503CW, Nikon FG and a polaroid land camera.

I don't really have a favourite.. anything cheap and expiredis always fun to work with. I just really enjoy the results and magic that isfilm itself. A small list of ones I work with are; Fuji instant 100C , Kodak160 VC, Ilford HP5 and Kentmere 400.

I really enjoy shooting with 100 iso films and the Kodak Farbwelt 100 was my favourite for a quite long time. Now I basically use whatever I can get.

I don't have a favourite. I get bored rather easily that’s why I try to shoot photos as often as I can. I like this kind of bliss which only "fresh" photos can bring, unfortunately it doesn't last long. Thankfully it encourages me to evolve.

At the moment I'm just starting out, so I'm using a rather battered old Pentax MZ50. I have dreams of a Minolta Hi-Matic though, and spend quite a lot of my time scouring eBay for the right one!

I decided to get into film photography because I was so curious about the secret (to me) world of different film stocks - but I've yet to find a favourite. To be honest, I usually just use whatever I find lying around.

3) For the photo submitted, why is it your favourite?

I love this photograph because of the colour contrasts. It came from the first roll of film that I tried when I decided to start using film, and so perfectly illustrated the benefits of using film over digital that it got me hooked.

This photograph represents a moment of the past captured in the present. I took it last summer at my grand parent's house in the centre of Spain and it is part of a series called "Remembering Tomorrow". I spent a lot of time when I was younger in this house in summer. This bathroom hasn't changed in 20 years. For me everything in there is deeply anchored in my childhood memories. I like to go back there and witness the slow life of my grand parents. I especially like this image for its light. Strong, plain, neutral, giving every details their own importance.

I own a few cameras but my favourite is definitely the canon AV1, I’ve been shooting with it for a year now and it’s really the kind of camera I like.

2) What is your favourite/preferred filmstock?

My favourite filmstocks are portra400 and superia 1600, and for black and white tmax 3200. I like big contrasts and films I can burn easily. I’m also a big fan of expired films, as with solarisation, you can do a lot of cool stuff.

3) For the photo(s) submitted, why are they your favourite?

I don’t really have favourites photographs, but I really like this selection. The first one is a photo I took on a tiny kind of sidewalk at the beach, the fence is rusted, the rocks are burnt. I like the fact with this colour, the result is a totally different feeling. It’s different. It’s weird and funny and I like it like that. The two others shots -- one in a train going to Paris, I really like that road. I used to ride the train quite often and it was the first time in 5 years that I took this picture. Good memories -- listening to Bon Iver and staring a the slow fall of the night out the window...

Everyday is an inspiration for me, and people outside too, thank you so much.

Here 3 scans of my black and white photo's taken during a show. At that time I was a prop woman and assistant set designer, but I went touring with this show (Snaporaz Fellini) around theatres in Italy. Although I was behind the set to help the actors with the props (they had many changes of costumes, scenes and props, 18 actors and dancers) I remember that I carried with me all the time two objects: my camera a very simple and completely manual "Yashica 2000 FX-3 super" and my little maglite. So I took this pictures whilst the actress were in their changing room to get ready for the show. We toured for 11months, I think we were in Vicenza here in a theatre where nothing had changed since WWII. I guess, the changing rooms were a bit spartan! : )

2) What is your favourite/preferred filmstock?

I used an Ilford HP5 most probably plus (400 ASA or ISO if not more) and I printed the film myself on Ilford Paper MGIV multigrade RC. But the light was very poor and I didn't use a flash.

1) What camera do you use?

I have a nikon f2 and a contax t2.

I inherited the nikon from my dad many years ago. I love it but it's like a brick so I don't take it out too often these days. I bought the contax t2 after searching for a camera on and off for a few years that would give me soft, slightly nostalgic images without being too over the top or fiddly to use. I've only put two rolls of film through it so far, but I love it already.

2) What is your favourite/preferred filmstock ?

I'm only recently getting back into film. Many years ago I used to shoot a lot of b&w, developing and processing my own photographs. Then I discovered ilford xp2, which was a real treat because it was still black and white but you could get it processed at the lab and it saved a lot of time. Now I'm rediscovering which films I like. These were taken with kodak bw 400 cn and now I have a roll of fuji superia in my camera. I'd like to try kodak portra next because I've heard lots of good things about it.

3) For the photo(s) submitted, why are they your favourite?

I've been trying to be a bit freer when taking photos because I feel like I'm in a rut sometimes. I've been shooting a few images while not looking through the viewfinder and shooting even if the exposure is off, just to get some different results. I took these two images with the contax t2. It was quite sunny and I had a 400asa film so you can see they're quite overexposed, but I think they're quite eerie and I particularly like the image where you can see some flying foxes hanging in the trees.

1) What camera do you use ?

For 6 years, I have been using a Hasselblad 501 CM mostly with Kodak portra 400VC, back polaroids and 3200 fuji.

I also use a NIKON FM1 with which I use black and white TRIX. I always try to make my own prints at the lab.

And my favovourite of all the time, an old Canonet QL 1.47 (with whom I pretty much share my life), it is the most wonderfull thing in the entire universe (I’m serious !)

2) What is your favourite/preferred filmstock ?

I think with my Canonet I try to change the film every time I have to change a roll : Iliford, Fuji, and I cross-process and really old films I get at the flea market for barely nothing.

3) For the photo submitted, why is it your favourite?

Joey, the guy in this photograph, came from London to Paris to shoot some photos with me for some skate magazine. After a little session and the second try, his board fell into the water of the St Martin Canal. He was really disappointed because without this photo he could have some problems with his sponsors. After few days I went to the lab and I discovered this shot. I actually sold this photo more than 30 times around the world for different magazines. Joey loves me now :)

1) What camera do you use ?

I do use a lot of different cameras, I collect them, and I always look for some new ones in order to keep the surprise fresh shooting with them. I don’t like too much the immediate habits you get with the camera you use, I do prefer some of the machine that is a bit hard to apprehend at the beginning. But it’s clear I do collect them to shoot with, not to let them get dusty on a shelf, I feel so good when I use a machine (un appareil photo--a camera) that is thirty or forty years old, still working like a charm!
Even if I absolutely don’t want to think about in a nostalgic way, I doubt a lot of digital cameras will get the same longevity...In fact I use to love each of my cameras for their inherent defects rather than their qualities, I mean it’s more their defects which lead me to the choice of one camera instead of another for a given subject to shoot.

2) What is your favourite/preferred filmstock ?
I don’t pay a huge attention to the film I use, for instance I use to buy some big stocks of expired films in the flea market. Same way than with the cameras, what interest me a lot is to keep the surprise fresh while shooting with a film I don’t know yet, especially with the expired ones. However, I don’t want to lie and it’s true when I buy some new films at the lab, I have a big preference with Portra NC, especially the 160NC, and it’s a bit painful to know they have stopped producing them--from February Kodak chose to produce only one type merging NC and VC specificities in a single one. I like the tones of that film, and the fact I can keep the same rendering of them while shooting with a 35mm point and shot, 6x7 medium format or even 4x5" large format. But telling so, again, I’m more than ok to use what I can grab at the store when I need films while travelling, and it’s not a big deal for me not finding one or another special film, I even like to push them if it’s too dark to shoot with the film loaded in the camera.

For the black & white then, I love grain, then mostly go for Tmax 3200, but here again, I first use the cheap films found from the flea market before to buy some new ones.

3) For the photo submitted, why is it your favourite?
It’s not especially my favorite ever, but I think it illustrates well my purpose about analogue photography, the defaults of the camera, or of the film, the surprise you may have at shooting that way. Hard and useless to reproduce with a digital camera whereas it’s so emotional to discover such a result after the film being processed.
It's what keeps me excited about analogue photography.

A Canon AE1 Program and lately a Rolleicord, which is not very easy to handle. Both have names, Georgette for the AE1, Robert for the Rollei. I carry Georgette everyday with me wherever I go.

2) What is your favourite/preferred filmstock ?

Lately Portra 400 but I still use Kodacolor 400, the roll I started to shoot with.

For black and white, Ilford HP5 & Tmax 3200.

3) For the photo submitted, why is it your favourite ?

I was lucky enough to see the Anish Kapoor exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris. The shapes and lines of the sculpture were so mesmerizing. What I love about this picture is that if you haven't been there, you don't really know what you see. "Evoke rather than describe" is what I keep in mind when I shoot.

What camera do you use?

I use a Pentax MZ-50 and a Minolta X-700.

2) What is your favourite/preferred filmstock?

I shoot with Fujicolor Superia. I used to only shoot in black and white, because I thought I was too cool to shoot in color. But I´ve fallen in love with color. There is a richness to my shots that I never get with my digital camera. (Or maybe I´m just not cool anymore... And, no, my kids aren´t available for comment :))

3) For the photo(s) submitted, why are they your favourite?

These shots are from my last roll. I remember taking them because they caught my eye while hanging out with friends and I only stopped long enough to point and shoot. I had forgotten about them and was surprised by how much I liked the way they turned out. They remind me of the reality of beauty that always surrounds us... even mid- sentence, when you aren´t looking for it. :)

1) What camera do you use?

I play with a bunch of different cameras, but most often I use my trusty Canon 35mm because we just seem to be a good fit. It takes really lovely pictures but it's also open to the accidental magic that I adore about shooting with film. I love playing with double exposures and all my favourite cameras have that capability: the Canon, Holga, pinholes and Minolta Pro for Spectra polaroid (which was used for all the pics here). I love toy cameras too - not for their novelty but because in such a simple fashion, they can make incredible images. I also have (gathering dust on a shelf right now though...) a Polaroid land camera which uses peel apart film allowing for transfers onto paper etc and some old 35mm instant cameras. My boyfriend recently bought a Hasselblad which he uses much more wisely than I.

2) What is your favourite/preferred filmstock?

These were taken with Polaroid Spectra film which is no longer availble - sob. There's new film available now from the Impossible Project and I just love their Silver Shade. For 35mm I really like the Kodak BW 400CN because I can get it processed in an hour like colour film but the images are BW and have a wonderful rich contrast. But having said that I'll use anything I can get my hands on, in or out of date. Some of the nicest colour tones I've found came from the really cheap 3pks they sell at Jean-Coutu (pharmacy).

3) For the photo(s) submitted, why are they your favourite?

I've chosen these just because no other film could have made them. And because Nancy said I wasn't allowed to submit several hundred.

1. What camera do you use?
I own a Pentax K1000 (I bought it the day after I moved to New York city, seemed like the right thing to do!), a Fujifilm Instax Mini 7 and a Fischer Price toy camera.

2. What is your favourite/preferred filmstock?
For colour: I prefer negative film (although I think I should shoot more with slide film since I always like the high contrast one can get). I love love love love slow filmstocks--the lower the ISO the better it is for me due to the sharpness, less apparent grain and deep colour saturation.

For black and white: I love the opposite--I love grain! so a 400 ISO and faster is pretty sexy for me.

3. For the photo submitted, why is it your favourite?

The photograph I've chosen was taken with a throw-away camera. (I know! I graduated from film school, I know!) I don't have the habit of taking photographs all the time since it is a question of chasing the light but I always have a camera around especially when I travel.
I like taking photos with a throwaway camera since the approach is less precious and it becomes more about capturing the moment. (Don't worry when I am shooting a film, I like using Zeiss or Cooke lenses...). I chose this photograph** since I like the light and the composition but because it is also a reminder that I enjoy fishing, being in nature, seeing moose* and deer etc etc. For me, film is about light and waiting and not knowing--photography is about collecting moments.

At the end of the day, I really enjoy film because I like anything where the result can surprise you--thankfully it always presents you with that gift.

**I have received interesting comments regarding my choice, a little too simple for some I suppose? Film for me is about light and how it handles light. I wanted to show something simple and that is not aestheticized...

1. What camera do you use?
At the moment I'm mostly using a canon eos 30 - one of the last film cameras produced by canon. It's not a pretty camera but I'm able to use my EF lens on it.

I occasionally use a pentax k 1000 and pentax p30. I also always have my little rollei 35 rangefinder with me in my bag.

2. What is your favourite/preferred filmstock?
I alternate between shooting on slide & negative film. I like the drama and graphic contrasts you get shooting on slide. For me shooting on film is more about tones & colours.

3. For the photos submitted, why is it your favourite?
The photograph I've chosen was taken on kodak elite chrome slide film, whilst sitting at the bar at the National gallery in London.

I choose it for the way the light is captured & for the way it frames this view of the city.

1) What camera do you use ?

I use several: A Canon FTB, Canon F1N, Pentax MX, Yashica T4 and a LOMO LC-A. But mainly I'd say I use my Lomo; I always carry it in my bag and I love the surprises that little camera produces.

2) What is your favourite/preferred filmstock ?

I still haven't found the film yet, but Kodak Gold 200 is very close. I have to remind myself to experiment more with different film stocks!

3) For the photo submitted, why is it your favourite ?

This picture was just a happy accident; I hadn't notice this couple earlier and when I turned round, I saw the shadows from the blind and knew I had to take a picture. I got my camera out, hoping that they wouldn't notice me doing so, and got a rush of adrenaline when I pressed the shutter. I didn't know what the camera had exposed for (the dark parts or the light parts of the picture) and just hoped that something would come out. A couple of months later when I was winding the roll back, the film snapped in half (something that's never happened before) and I forgot that this shot was on there. I was very happy when I saw that it had made it!

I used a Mamiya 645 for two years but I currently use a Mamiya RZ67 format which I like a lot. I also use Polaroid sx-70 and an old 24x36 camera.

3) For the photo submitted, why is it your favourite ?

This picture reminds me of good time and freedom. I try to capture the environment as it is today, always putting into question the relationship between mankind and nature, and they way they evolve from time to time.

1)What camera do you use?

I've had a 35mm Nikon FG for years and it's still my go to film camera. I did have much fun with an old Mamiya C330 2 1/4 camera while I owned it (before I lent it for many years and eventually lost track of it...). I do also shoot digital (hush hush, no talk of digital on this website :). But for sure film is the medium I learned on and it is still my medium of predilection. I know I'm retro and a purist in some ways...and actually, don't get me wrong, I have embraced the digital era.: it’s just film has a certain "je ne sais quoi" and if you're seeking that kind of feel, just shoot on film. If you want a different kind of look, shoot digital. They are both super interesting tools.

2) What is your favourite/preferred filmstock?
Usually I decide that depending on the specific project. For example, I love to use Fuji provia film for cross processing but I tend to use Kodak Ektachrome for slides. I was a big fan of Ilford for B & W (though I often used Kodak as well). I use the past tense...well because I haven't shot on B & W film in a few years.

In my job as a cinematographer (for films etc) I usually chose Kodak negative film... But for all my projects (still photographs or movies) I always chose the filmstock and these days, even the medium, that best suits the project.

3) For the photo(s) submitted, why is it your favourite?

Favourite...Oh boy. It took me a really long time to pick the photos. I chose this particular set (though they date back at least 3 or 4 years back) because it's a photo project I did for fun with Mélanie Truchon, an art director friend of mine and my brother Olivier who was our "handy man/ miracle worker. Mélanie just organized this shoot as if it were a fashion shoot, asked some friends to model for us, transformed her living room for the occasion (like...put up some funky wallpaper, etc) and we just had fun. I shot it on a 2 1/4 camera...pretty sure it was on Kodak film but unfortunately, I can't swear to that.

1) What camera do you use?

I only use second hand cameras or disposable ones. I used to carry around a Nikon fm2, but since it broke I turned to a Minolta xg1. I also use a variety of point and shoot cameras. In addition, I have a couple of, more or less functioning ones that I love, including a Brownie and a Zenit-E.

2) What is your favourite/preferred filmstock?

I’m not picky : Negative or slide film, black and white or colour, expired or non-expired film.

3) For the photo(s) submitted, why is it your favourite?

The first image is from a double exposure series I did called Sapiens Sapiens. It consists of analogue double exposures featuring naked bodies and artificial landscapes. Overall, it's a reflection on human nature. I’m very happy with how the lines of the hand got mixed up with the lines of the rocks. The second one is a portrait of my friend Poline, that meets the same line of thought as the Sapiens Sapiens series did.

1) What camera do you use?

I own a whole bunch of cameras and I'm always interested in seeing what effect each one gives me. 35mm I shoot lomo LCA+, Yashica T4, Mamiya 500tl and Im excited to start using a minox 35 I was given as a gift. 120mm I have a Holga, a Mamiya RB 67 and my most regularly used camera a Bronica 6x4.5. If I'm honest I didn't really fall in love with photography truly until my 3rd year at LCF when I began my final major project photographing 'Golfers'. As the subject matter was so traditional I thought it only right I shot on 120 film. I hired a Bronica from college and shot the whole project on this, at first I couldn't even load the film that well ! As soon as I began to take in and collect films, see the contact sheets, THAT WAS IT ! I haven't looked back since ! Therefore this camera was essentially my first camera, it taught me how I take photographs. After I left college my lovely girlfriend bought me an exact replacement for my birthday.

2) What is your favourite/preferred filmstock?

This is something I don't really have, at all ! I shoot all film, black and white, colour, 120, 35mm, 1600iso, 100iso, in date and out of date !!! Im not sure if this is strange for a photographer, I wouldn't really know, there are certainly photographers that know a hell of a lot more about this type of thing than I do but this is just how I have always worked. I kinda love not 'knowing' I like the thought of shooting and then seeing what the camera, film, processing etc is going to add/take away from the images..... I hate perfection in photography.

3) For the photo(s) submitted, why is it your favourite?

I submitted 4 images from a series of 10 I shot of my little sister Cherry. They were shot for the launch issue of a magazine called WAR back in 2008/9 and I LOVE them because its my cheeky, mischievious and cute sister at her very best ! Cherry is autistic and has downs syndrome and I loved taking her photographs and placing them in such an obscure 'fashion' publication, its millions of miles away from our family life. Cherry was the biggest diva of them all and loved being shot for a magazine!
